Preparing

Hey everyone. Starting my blog a month before I'm leaving for Mali with the Peace Corps, working as a Health Educator. I just booked my flight to Philadelphia. This is my third ticket. I was suppose to leave for Guinea December 4, then January 12 but I guess everything happens for a reason. Guinea had their very first election this year and the country was completely divided. The new leader won by 3%. 7 people died when the results were announced and Guinea closed it boarders. I was devastated when I first found out. I was suppose to leave in two weeks. I had just sold my car and moved all my things back to Wisconsin. I had no idea what I was going to do for two months. Luckily, Mario had a place for me to stay in Grand Cayman. That's where I am now and feeling super blessed. I couldn't find any groups on facebook for Guinea so I hadn't really talked to anyone about how they were preparing and what they were packing. I found the group for Mali right away. One of the first people I came into contact with was Jessica. She is incredibly organized. She gathered a ton of information about what to pack and what to leave at home. I am grateful and overwhelmed. I have so many things to get before I leave. The list of things to pack is very long and the list of things to buy is getting expensive. I'll be back in Wisconsin next week to start packing and see how much of my crazy list will actually fit in my suitcases. Wish me luck!!
